Experiencing a small amount of stress can provide the motivation one needs in order to overcome a challenge or roadblock. However, excessive stress can be detrimental to a person's physical and mental well-being. Chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, headaches, dizziness and digestive problems are just a few examples of those. All of these symptoms can have a detrimental effect on one's everyday living, and it's very much possible for them to aggravate stress. With increased stress, the various physical symptoms intensify.

Health experts confirm that failure to deal with stress accordingly can lead to the existence of serious health concerns. For instance, deadly heart disease may come into being as a result of constantly elevated blood pressure. It's also very much possible for diabetes to strike because of the fact that being stressed all the time can lead to the elevation of the blood sugar levels.

Some people attempt to deal with stress in ways that can make everything worse. Such is the case for those who resort to cigarette smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, and use of illegal drugs or substances. There are some people whose eating habits become unhealthy, thus increasing their risk of suffering from health problems such as obesity.

It cannot be denied that seeking professional assistance is a smart move. An expert can assist in establishing a person's stress triggers. What's more, he or she can help in the formulation of appropriate coping mechanisms that won't endanger the health, career and relationships of a client.
