Discovering A Free Guided Meditation Course Online

By Barbara Clark

In most cases, fundamentalists frown up on meditative practices in lieu of prayer. While this is the case, there are those whom embrace a Guided meditation course which focuses on scripture. Whereas, there are also courses which are directed to individuals whom identify as spiritual though not religious.

Whether focusing on Christian meditation offered by some churches, or a more secular aspect, the objective is the same. In most cases, the objective is to clear and calm the mind of any negative or pre-occupying thoughts. Most often, individuals involved in the practice sit for anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour or more. While most often the practice is used to clear the mind, there are others whom use the practice to focus on a particular area of life.

The most common form practiced in the Western world is that of Yogic meditation. As it is a form designed to help clear the mind and create a joyful attitude, it can be easy to do with or without audio or visual guides. In fact, most all practices use the same framework which is to relax, let go, eliminate negative thoughts and find peace. For, a mind can not be at peace when cluttered with desires and thoughts, whether positive or negative in nature.

As with other practices, the beginning phases of the practice often include stretching and relaxation techniques. After which, practitioners generally sit or lie down in a comfortable position. During the process, breathing and counting techniques are often used such as counting backwards from 100 to 1. While doing so, practitioners work to eliminate any thoughts.

It is essential that an individual meditate in an area that is free of clutter and noise and without distraction. As such, it is important that all electronic devices be turned off, or better yet, absent during practice. Otherwise, it can often be difficult to maintain a calm and clear mind.

Whether sitting in a class, listening to an audio or watching a video course at home or sitting in nature, focus is the key to successful meditation. In most cases, individuals are taught to relax and focus on a favorite place, then count backwards from 100 to 1 before beginning a session. In doing so, the individual can easily clear the mind in order to enhance the meditative process.

As a result, individuals often experience fewer health issues, especially those related to stress such as high blood pressure and heart disease. In some cases, individuals have been able to eliminate blood pressure and heart medication after beginning a regular routine of meditation. While this is the case, it is important to contact a health care provider before doing so.

Whether at home, work, a center or in a natural setting, the practice has been shown to have positive effects on body, mind and soul. Whether using a free guided audio or video meditation source, or simply sitting still and letting thoughts escape, it can be a practice which promotes overall happiness and well being.
