In these 'modern times' when prophets are thin on the ground and even scarce in the Church, how do we know who is a real prophet and who may just be masquerading as a prophet? God gives a prophet time for preparation typically. John the Baptist had 30 years, as did Jesus Christ, whereas Paul had only around three. Have a look at the following article taking us through the theme Describing and defining the work and Prophetic ministry start up coaching and consulting.
I certainly do. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was crucified and who is risen and ascended now lives forever and can be close to those who call upon Him. Over these past weeks and months, I have taken time to read and study parts of the book of Revelation, and I have not completed that study yet.
This is why prophecy is so famous. God would rather have us take proactive measures, and lead to alleviate the burdens in the world. Prophecy opens the door for us to be active. The word predicted in the previous Scripture is translated semaino (say-mah'-ee-no) derived from the word sema; meaning "a mark; to indicate or to signify." Agabus, the prophet, marked a word and spoke it with great confidence.
Why did he speak with such confidence? He spoke because he deeply believed it had come from the author of truth-God Himself. Marking is a term that indicates surety. In other words, we are sure, confident and know without a doubt that God has spoken. When we mark what God has said it leaves no doubt in the mind of the receiver of the prophetic word spoken by God. The prophet, Jeremiah, affirms the "marking" principle in the following passage.
In these final moments of time, do you know what God is going to do? Revelation tells us! God is going to raise up preachers, and preachers who will be prophetic. He will have a band of prophetic preachers or a community of prophets. Prophets do not just teach the Word and expound the Scriptures, but they give a direct word from God.
One helpful insight and accurate definition regarding prophecy is - "the ability granted by the Holy Spirit to a believer to speak forth words which proceed from God that does come from the believer's wisdom, understanding or education." Sometimes what God reveals is for sharing immediately. Occasionally, the prophet may have to wait patiently for weeks or months and remain quiet, keeping that word in his heart until the correct moment.
What happens in one of these sessions with God? First, you connect and relate to your Creator. God desires a relationship with His people, but we are to make a concerted effort to meet with Him during our prayer times. His presence is addictive, once we make it in we experience dimensions of Him that are all too wonderful, and naturally, we are inclined to want more of Him.
Jeremiah wanted to run a mile from God when God called him to exercise a prophetic ministry. God had left the church of that day, and the Jerusalem priests were unaware of what had happened. The burden Jeremiah carried was hefty, causing him to weep. Weeping can be part of the experience of today's prophets.
