Many parents with teenage kids can attest that looking after a teenager is not a walk in the park. This is because teen years are mostly regarded as the most challenging years of a human beings life. It is one of the most delicate periods of people lives as teens try to navigate the delicate channel between babyhood and adulthood. One of the most challenging decisions that teens have to make is when to begin using drugs or alcohol. The fact is that no teen wakes up one morning and begins using beer and drugs. It is a process that takes long depending on the environment the teen is exposed to. This is because teens have the desire to be accepted by their peers.

Also, every teen want to be called a grown up. When their parents ask them to do something that seem to show them that they are still kids, the teens will mostly make their parents know that they are now of age. However, this is only an illusion. Some parents also contribute to their children becoming addicts. In case the parents are addicts their children will like to take from them. Some parents even buy beer and store it in their hone refrigerator. This makes it easy for the teen to get a bottle and take. Kids believe in their parents and believe that whatever their parents do is right. They therefore do not mind mimicking them.

It is alright for teens to be curious about some things. However, it is imperative for teens to know those things that are good to try and those that they should never try. In most cases, teens do not have lot of activities to do at home when their parents go for work. They have ample time to explore new things including beer and drugs.

Also, some teens are likely to be vulnerable to drugs and beer if they have undergone some emotional pain. Just like adults, they feel that these substances acts like medication to heal their wounded hearts. They feel that being drunk or high is a temporal way to relive pain and offers an escape gate.

Some teens are also very rebellious. They want to test their maturity and prove a point to their parents. They also want to see what their parents can do. In most cases, this happens to teens that have strict and over protective parents. Instead of letting their parents know how they feel about their constant nagging, they find escape in alcohol and drugs.

The fact is that if trained, most teens can be able to escape some of these things that trigger them into using drugs and substances. This is why parents should advocate training early enough. After all, a stitch in time saves nine.
