This helps patients receive the support they are looking for from everyone in the communty.

You start as a student of the condition learning from other advocates and other sources regarding this. After knowing some information then you become an expert even though you do not feel like one, but you are one for those who knows less. Then you become an advocate as you educate others and getting support to those that need it.

To be an effective advocate there are some steps you could follow which would help you in becoming one. Accept your role and feel good about supporting those who needs it by educating others about the condition. You will be knocking down stigma and ignorance that people have about it which prevents them to help.

Get educated to know more about ADHD and have more tools you can use in effectively expressing your opinions when required. This can be done by reading books or talking with mental health professionals who are experts with this. Another way is by talking and sharing your experiences with other advocates.

You have your own situation which is personal so start with it by supporting your patients, clients or students or by helping your child or children. This would help in gaining your momentum that could be used in helping others. Reach out to people in your community like those from your workplace, neighborhood or school.

Recognize that each one has unique strengths which can be used in spreading your advocacy effectively. You may be good at bringing people together and talking with them or in using technology like social media or blogs where you can spread your thoughts faster and easier. These are very useful when trying to reach out to more people as an advocate.

Join others such as organizations and support groups either online, local or national with similar advocacy that you have. Working with others helps in expanding the people you can reach which you can educate and help more of them. This is also how you can develop your skills further or learn more which is very helpful.

Keep records and have them organized so you can share them with others better and having your notes copied can assist greatly the newer ones.
